iEPB's partners champion a common data model and integrated accreditation pathways for smarter energy performance certificates

iEPB attended the yearly Next Gen EPC Cluster meeting in Brussels on May 6th, 2025. This year, the meeting was organised by the Smart Living EPC project and REHVA. During the meeting, the projects included Next Gen EPC cluster that will be ending this year presented their results, including insights that are useful for the ongoing projects in the cluster and the implementation of the EPC Recast.

Buildings drive much of Europe’s energy use and emissions, and digital tools are key to meeting the EU’s climate targets: during the event, it was highlighted how to use innovative digital solutions to improve building energy performance and certification. Policymakers, researchers and industry leaders all gathered together to discuss project outcomes, EU strategies and the social hurdles to widespread digital adoption.

The agenda was very rich in presentations and panels, thus highlighintg both the uniqueness of each research’s project and institution and the benefits of clustering and collaborating.

iEPB was represented by Dirk de Wit from ISSO and Jaap Hogeling and Andrei Lițiu from EPB Center and they specifically brought to the table the value of a common data model for EPCs, SRIs and other instruments. The three partners gave a sneak-peak of the results that they expect to present in the next edition of the next Next GEN EPC Cluster meeting. They also focused on the issue of how to certify- in the sense of accreditation-  integrated assessments and assessment tools as well as assessors who are using these tools.
